A LIFT Project story
Amanda was a 17 year old girl who was pregnant and dealing with multiple disadvantages and challenges in her life. Amanda came to the LIFT Project for personal and housing support, with the hopes of accessing further training. In a short time, Amanda was referred to emergency and transitional housing. Within three months she had signed a rental agreement and received a TILA (Transition to Independent Living Allowance) grant for $1000 to assist her in setting up her new home. The LIFT Project was also able to assist her in completing her Year 10 Certificate with intensive one-one-one tutoring support with her LIFT mentor. Amanda is now settled into her new home and enjoying life with her baby son. |
LIFT Project
The LIFT Project provides living skills for teenagers through peer education, pre-vocational training and personal development for young homeless people aged between 14 and 21 years. Funded by SAAP (Supported Assistance Accommodation Program), the LIFT Project has provided assistance to over 100 young people through group workshops and intensive one-on-one support in an attempt to develop a sense of independence and to assist in providing opportunities in the community.
The LIFT Project aims to focus on participant’s personal achievements by working on improving self esteem and confidence, raising community awareness, and by increasing a sense of purpose and belonging for the young person.
