Agatha Christie’s Cards on the Table:

A Night of Theatre for Galilee

For the second year in a row, Galilee and Tempo Theatre joined forces to raise much needed funds for Canberra’s disadvantaged babies, children, young people and families.Tempo Theatre began life as one of Canberra’s earliest amateur theatre groups in 1974. Since its beginning Tempo has produced a large number of shows - many of them Canberra premieres. It has also broadened its range of productions to include Drama, Comedy and Theatre Restaurant. Tempo has been a stepping stone for many performers who have gone on to become popular and successful professionals in their own right.

Tempo’s objectives (as per their constitution) are to:

  • Produce and promote live theatre in the ACT and region

  • Foster a social club for people interested in live theatre

  • Promote theatre skills development

  • Participate & interact with other organisations with similar aims within the region

Given these objectives, and the exciting fact that Galilee’s CEO Lynne Harwood is a regular Tempo participant, Galilee has been lucky enough to be supported on two occasions by Tempo Theatre.

The fundraising event took place at the Belconnen Community Theatre on the evening of the 12th of August and was a fun night filled with Agatha Christie’s mysterious blend of murder and drama:

An enjoyable evening of bridge turns into a murder investigation when the flamboyant host Mr Shaitana is found dead. Can the two invited investigators -, Superintendent Battle and Ariadne Oliver - discover which of the other four guests is the killer? All four had the opportunity - and all four have something to hide. After all, their host seemed certain that each of them had already gotten away with murder.

The night was a huge success with the Theatre almost selling out of all of its seats. Galilee held a raffle on the night having received some excellent donated prizes. Prizes included a night for two in a King Spa Room at the Marque Hotel on Northbourne Avenue, a Tupperware Pack worth $125, and a Canon Digital Camera. There were also a few lucky door prizes to be won as well.

Thanks to Tempo Theatre, the event was a smashing success and raised much needed funds for Galilee Programs. Galilee thanks Tempo and looks forward to an ongoing partnership in the years to come.
