The Trees in Trouble Program was created to protect iconic and endangered paddock trees such as the Yellow Box and Red Gum Eucalyptus tree from attack and damage by horses and livestock. The program was specifically designed for students who struggle academically, yet thrive in an alternative education environment.

The Galilee School was one of two schools asked to participate in the Program, the other being Lanyon High School.   The Galilee students participated in a team learning environment and worked on the design, construction, welding and assembly of the steel tree guards.   The Trees in Trouble Program also helped the participants develop an understanding of farming systems, basic tool safety, offered an introduction to OH&S practices, and progressed the development of Literacy and Numeracy skills through practical activities.

The event was launched to coincide with World Environment Day and everyone agreed that the Program had been a huge success.

Galilee would like to thank Lion’s Youth Haven for offering such a practical outlet and environment for our school students to learn in.
